There are two major categories: thermoplastic powder coatings and thermosetting powder coatings.

 

  • Thermoplastic powder coatings are composed of thermoplastic resins, pigments, fillers, plasticizers and stabilizers. Thermoplastic powder coatings include: polyethylene, polypropylene, polyester, polyvinyl chloride, chlorinated polyether, polyamide, cellulose, and polyester.

 

  • Thermosetting powder coatings are composed of thermosetting resins, curing agents, pigments, fillers and additives. Thermosetting powder coatings include epoxy resin, polyester, and acrylic resin.

On the contrary, the powder will feel rough and feel heavy and the quality will be poor. It is not easy to spray, and the secondary powder falls a lot, and the waste is large.

 

  1. Volume

 

The larger the volume, the less filler in the powder coating, and the higher the cost, the better the powder quality; The smaller the volume, the higher the filler in the powder coating, and the lower the cost, the poorer the powder quality.

 

  1. Storage time

 

The shelf life of normal powder is 12 months at room temperature, and the quality of products using low-end raw materials is unstable and easily deteriorated. Using poor raw materials to produce powder, the sprayed surface will accelerate pulverization and aging after half a year.

The resin content of normal powder should be around 55-65%, and some poor powder factories use resin content below 45% to charge shoddy products, and increase fillers to reduce costs.

Good powder is easy to spray, and the substrate can be covered by spraying 1-3 guns, the secondary recovery of powder is less, and the work efficiency is high. See if there is smoke. A good powder does not produce a lot of smoke during the baking process. Poor quality powder produces a lot of smoke during the baking process.

Good powder products have fine appearance, fullness, transparency, and strong three-dimensional appearance. Poor quality powder products have a dull appearance, dull, rough surface, impermeable, and poor three-dimensional impression.

 

🔹Adhesion and aging identification method

Good powder has strong adhesion, strong toughness, and can keep it from powdering and aging for several years. The poor powder has poor adhesion and is very brittle. It will begin to age and fade 3 months to half a year after spraying.

 

🔹High temperature identification method

Adjust the temperature to between 220-230 degrees and keep it for 10-15 minutes. A good powder has better temperature and weather resistance. After high-temperature baking, the color becomes smaller and the gloss changes little. Poor quality powder has poor temperature and weather resistance, and becomes matt after high-temperature baking.
