Does Powder Coating Contain VOC

July 26,2022

In recent years, under the guidance of global environmental protection work requirements and industrial policies, environment-friendly coatings such as water-based coatings, high-solid coatings, solvent-free coatings, and powder coatings have developed by leaps and bounds. The technology and application are becoming more and more mature, and the application range is The gradual expansion has favored the green transition of the coatings industry to coatings with low volatile compound (VOC) content.

Powder Coating

VOC emission has always been a key issue affecting green environmental protection. Since the country proposed the "Blue Sky Defense War", the control of VOC pollution has been the first to bear the brunt. From an industry perspective, the coatings industry is still a key area of VOC pollution. Coatings and spraying are still the primary problems of pollution. It is common for coating companies to be ordered to suspend business by the environmental protection department for VOC control.

Does powder coating contain VOC?

As we all know, powder coatings are mainly powder synthetic resin coatings composed of resins, pigments, additives and fillers. Different from ordinary solvent-based coatings, it has the characteristics of no solvent pollution, complete film formation and low energy consumption.

The VOC content refers to the weight of the organic volatiles contained in the paint, which is an inspection standard for whether the paint is environmentally friendly or not. Coatings with high VOC will volatilize a large amount of chemical substances, many of which are harmful to the human body, causing nausea, headaches and other uncomfortable symptoms. Powder coatings do not volatilize chemicals, so powder coatings do not contain VOCs.
